Driveway Gates and Gate Installation in Lubbock, TX

A gate in Lubbock has to do three things: stand up to the wind, keep closing true after the ground moves, and look like it belongs with the house and the fence. All-State has built and hung gates in Lubbock since 1979, from the Lubbock Fence Supply Center on Slide Road — driveway gates, walk gates that match your fence picket for picket, ornamental iron and chain link — and we fix the ones that have stopped working, including gates we didn’t build.

What kind of driveway gate should I get?

It depends on the opening, the slope of the drive and how much room the gate has to move.

Single swing works on a narrower drive with room for the gate to open. Double swing splits a wider opening into two shorter leaves, which are lighter on the hinges and catch less wind each. On a wood fence, a double drive gate on a metal frame can span up to 14 feet. Ornamental iron slide gates move sideways along the fence line instead of swinging, for openings up to 24 feet, drives that slope up toward the house, and lots where a swinging leaf would take the full force of a Lubbock wind.

For the look, a cedar double drive gate on a metal frame matches a cedar privacy fence; ornamental iron suits a front elevation where you want to see the house, and it’s the choice if you want the gate to slide; chain link works for back lots, alleys and utility access. Tell us the opening and the fence it ties into, and we’ll recommend one.

Walk gates that match the fence

A walk gate is the part of the fence that moves every day, so it’s the part that fails first when it’s built like the rest of the fence. We build cedar walk gates to match the fence picket for picket, hang them on hinges and posts sized for a gate rather than a line post, and fit a latch that holds when the wind catches the gate. Chain link walk gates and double drive gates for back yards and alleys.

Why does my gate sag or drag?

Usually one of three things. The hinge-side post has leaned, because it was set too shallow or the ground moved under it. The gate has racked out of square, because it’s heavy and nothing in the frame is holding the corner. Or the hinges have worn or pulled their screws. A gate that drags gets forced, and a forced gate gets worse fast.

We re-hang, re-post and rebuild gates across Lubbock, including gates we didn’t build. Small repairs that don’t involve setting a new post can often be done the same day or within one to two days. If the post has to be reset, the job waits two days for the required underground utility locate before we dig.

What changes the price of a gate?

The type and size of the gate matters most: a standard walk gate, a large double drive gate and a cantilever gate are very different jobs. After that, height, the posts the gate needs, whether an old gate or fence has to come out, and whether anything is stacked against the fence line that has to be moved first. Every gate is priced after we see the opening; it’s the only way to price it accurately.
