Decorative Cap
This decorative fence is a popular alternative to the standard “Dog Ear” or “Gothic Point” styles of fence. This fence includes only one layer of 4” wide flat top boards. The boards are installed flush together with a decorative 2” x 4” cap installed horizontally on top of the fence. This design looks very nice and will add 4 to 6 extra inches of “height privacy” because the boards have not been cut like the Gothic Point and Dog Ear styles and considering the width of the cap. Even though the boards are installed flush together, they will shrink after the first couple of weeks, as all fencing lumber is green when received from the lumber mills. If there are concerns about gaps between the pickets after shrinkage, the Board on Board or the Board & Bat styles are suggested as their designs eliminate the shrinkage problem.
