Board & Bat
This decorative fence is considered a complete privacy fence. This fence is popular with home owners who own swimming pools and hot tubs since its design conceals the gaps left between the boards caused by shrinkage. There are two layers of boards on this fence. The first layer is a 6” wide board. The second layer is a 2” wide board. The first layer of boards is installed without leaving a gap between boards. The second layer of boards is installed over the seams (where the first layer of boards meets). When the boards shrink, a gap is left between boards that, unless covered, allow people to see through the fence. The second layer of boards covers this gap (seam) and prevents people on the other side of the fence from seeing through the fence. A decorative 2” x 4” cedar cap is installed horizontally at the top of the fence. This design looks very nice and will provide 4 to 6 inches of extra “height privacy” due to the boards not being cut (like the Gothic Point and Dog Ear styles) and considering the width of the cap.
